Goldey-Beacom faced a determined Post squad and left with a 9-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference sweep in Waterbury, CT.
Before entering last year's CACC final rematch, the Lightning clinched a bye into the CACC semifinals. The defending league champion has made the semifinals 10 straight years.
In doubles play, sophomore Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) and freshman Fredrika Regner (Langaryd, Sweden) started off the match by winning 8-2 over Annika Janson and Sarah Namazi at first doubles. No. 2 doubles junior Manuela Cornejo (Quito, Ecuador) and sophomore Alma Garcia Valle (Valladolid, Spain) overcame Jessica Bergen and Juliana Seabra, winning 8-4. Sophomore Silvia Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) and senior Raquel Morais (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) took every game (8-0) against Sabrina Martino and Rebecca Eelman in third doubles.
During the singles matches, No. 1 singles freshman Catarina Zheng (Oporto, Portugal) won in two sets (6-3, 6-1) over Janson. For No. 2 singles, Anna Hortelano Pey triumphed over Seabra in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Garcia Valle defeated Namazi 6-3, 6-0 in No. 4 singles. Regner, Cornejo and Silvia Hortelano Pey lost zero games (all sets 6-0) versus Bergen, Martino and Eelman, respectively.
The Eagles leave the match with a record of 6-8 overall and 3-5 in the league.
The Lightning (8-0, 7-0) take on Concordia (NY) for the final regular-season match of the fall with the number one seed in the conference tournament at stake. The match takes place on Sunday in Bronxville, NY at noon.
