Women’s Basketball Regains Winning Edge With 62-51 Triumph at Concordia

Yet another solid offensive and defense performance for Goldey-Beacom turned into yet another victory, 62-51 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at Concordia (NY) in Bronxville, NY.

The two sides were evenly matched into the second half, until the Lightning scored 11 straight points to open a 39-28 lead with 5:21 left in the third quarter.  Junior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) netted five points in that span with freshman Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) and junior Margherita Giubilei (Cesena, Italy) each canning a 3-pointer.

Bryson made a huge difference in the second half, scoring nine points on 4-of-6 shooting to go with four rebounds.  Junior Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) had eight points and nine rebounds in the half with Giubilei netting six points.

GBC got great play from its defense after the intermission, holding Concordia to just 30 percent shooting (10-of-33) from the field.  The Lightning owned a 36-26 edge on the scoreboard in the half, shot 11-for-13 from the line and the Clippers were just 2-for-3.

Bryson for the game had 13 points and 11 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season and Bruno totaled 10 and 11 for her second of the campaign.  Sophomore Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) poured in 13 points off the bench and Giubilei netted a season-best 12 for GBC (10-7, 6-2 CACC), which notched its ninth victory in its last 11 outings.

Bruno moved into fifth place in school history and now has 1,314 points.

Jessica Rosalbo and Julianne Wilkinson netted 16 points apiece with Hadiyah Black corralling 12 rebounds for the Clippers (4-11, 4-3), who shot only 35 percent (20-of-58) from the field.
