Women’s Basketball Strikes Back in 76-63 Triumph Over Felician

Goldey-Beacom overcame a shaky start and put together a complete second half for a 76-63 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Felician at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The first half was a struggle for GBC, which found itself down as many as 33-18 with 4:18 left.  But the home side delivered the back-breaker before intermission, ending the stanza on a 14-2 to close to a 35-32 deficit.  Sophomore Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) continued her impeccable and valuable play off the bench for GBC, scoring nine points in that spurt that included a pair of 3-pointers in the last 33 seconds.

That proved to be the jolt the Lightning needed as they cruised through the second half en route to their 10th victory in the last 12 contests.  They outscored the Golden Falcons 44-28 after intermission with junior Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) netting 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting to go with five 3-pointers and freshman Mara Poch (Girona, Spain) adding nine points.

GBC canned nine 3-pointers in the half in shooting 45 percent (14-of-31) overall from the field and Felician hit only 37 percent (11-of-30) from the floor.

Bruno had 20 points and nine assists, junior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) notched 16 points and 10 rebounds for her 10th double-double this season, Turner-Rush scored 16 points and Poch added 12.  Turner-Rush is averaging 16.0 points over her last three games and has scored in double figures six times this season.

Bryson moved into ninth place in school history with 917 career points and Bruno now is second with 176 three-pointers.

Safiyyah Lee had 11 points and nine rebounds, Kameron Stone scored 11 points and Marya Trapp added 10 for the Golden Falcons (3-13, 2-7 CACC), who committed 22 turnovers.

GBC (11-7, 7-2) remains one game in back of U. of the Sciences for first place in the CACC South Division.
