Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Dealt 57-45 Loss at Dominican (NY)

Goldey-Beacom did its best to come back from a tough start, only to fall short in a 57-45 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Dominican (NY) in Orangeburg, NY.

Goldey-Beacom after the first quarter found itself in a 14-3 hole despite limiting Dominican to only 29 percent shooting (5-of-17).  Rebecca Rabeiro and Shannon McGill netted three points apiece in the period for the Chargers, who had six different players score in that span.

The Lightning then found their groove in the second quarter, outscoring the Chargers 16-11 by shooting 39 percent (7-of-18) from the field and limiting the home side to just 25 percent (4-of-16).  Junior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) had four points and six rebounds in the quarter with freshman Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) adding three points.

GBC was within 30-28 with 2:06 remaining in the third, but Dominican rattled off the next eight points over 2 1/2 minutes to grab a 10-point cushion with 9:20 left in the contest.  Stefani Alston capped the run with a 3-pointer for the Chargers, who led by at least seven for the remainder of the game.

Bryson finished with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting and 16 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season – one off her total from last season – and fourth consecutive.  She now has 712 career rebounds, moving her into fifth place in school history.

Junior Marisa Howard (Twinsburg, OH) and freshman Nina Bartlette (Winthrop, MA) scored seven points apiece for the Lightning (11-8, 7-3 CACC), who shot just 27 percent (19-of-71) from the field.

Jacqueline Rywalt had 13 points and eight rebounds with Alston, Rabeiro and Jasmine Gee adding nine points apiece for the Chargers (4-13, 4-4), who were held to just 29 percent shooting (18-of-62).

Dominican possessed an 18-for-24 mark from the foul line and GBC was just 5-for-10.

Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday visits Georgian Court as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game starts at 6:00 pm, followed by the men's 8:00 pm contest.
