Women’s Basketball Rolls to 69-49 Victory at Georgian Court

Goldey-Beacom relied on the usual suspects and got back on track with a 69-49 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win at Georgian Court in Lakewood, NJ.

Goldey-Beacom seized control in the second quarter courtesy of an 18-7 run to grab a 38-22 lead with 2:18 remaining.  Junior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) scored six points in the spurt for GBC, which shot 8-of-17 in the spurt and limited Georgian Court to a mere 3-of-11.

The Lightning held the Lions to just nine points in the second quarter and led 38-24 at halftime.  Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) scored 12 points in the period with Bryson and freshman Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) adding eight apiece for Goldey-Beacom, which forced Georgian Court into 12 turnovers.

A near-even third quarter preceded Goldey-Beacom lengthening its margin in the fourth, en route to its 23rd straight win over Georgian Court.  The Lightning scored eight straight points in just over four minutes to open a 65-44 cushion with 4:36 to play.  Bruno and McGrogan netted three points apiece in that span.

Bruno finished with 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting and is averaging 26.0 points in her last three contests against the Lions.  She also has scored at least 20 points in five of her six career encounters with Georgian Court.

Bryson had 18 points and 10 rebounds for her 12th double-double to match last season's personal-best total and fifth straight.  McGrogan added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Lightning, who shot 43 percent (27-of-63) from the field and have won 11 of their last 14 games.

Alliyah Berger scored 22 points on 10-of-19 shooting with 12 rebounds and Jaelyn Tweedy added 10 points for Georgian Court (3-14, 1-10 CACC), which shot 35 percent (21-of-60) from the floor and committed 18 turnovers.

Goldey-Beacom (12-8, 8-3) moved with a game of first place in the CACC South Division with U. of the Sciences (9-2) tonight losing at Wilmington.

Goldey-Beacom is off until next Tuesday, when it is home against Holy Family as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game is at 6:00 pm, followed by the men's 8:00 pm contest.
