Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second-Half Drama Propels Men’s Basketball to 79-75 Win at Concordia

Senior Shakeem Wilson (Brooklyn, NY) enjoyed a dominant second half and sophomore Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) canned the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:26 remaining, lifting Goldey-Beacom to a 79-75 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win at Concordia in Bronxville, NY.

The Lightning led by as many as 15 points early in the second half and owned a 61-51 cushion with 10:47 to go.  But the Clippers showed great resiliency in using a 17-5 run over 5 1/2 minutes to incredibly grab a 68-67 lead with 5:43 left.  Elijah Brown and Jalen Heath each netted five points in the spurt and Cedrick McFadden capped it with a 3-pointer.

Senior Sameen Swint (Sicklerville, NJ) nailed a jumper with 5:31 remaining to give GBC a 69-68 cushion, but Concordia regained the lead as Stephen Milhaven put back his own miss with 5:14 left.

Swint and Wilson each hit a layup as the Lightning grabbed a 73-70 lead before McFadden made a jumper and Heath nailed a go-ahead 3-pointer with 2:23 to go for a 75-73 margin.

After an empty possession each way, GBC had the ball and finally took the lead for good.  Junior Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) drove to the goal and fed the ball to Taite, who was open in the left corner and buried the triple for the half's sixth lead change and the game's ninth.

After Heath committed a turnover, Wilson hit a massive 10-foot jumper with 35 seconds left for a 78-75 GBC advantage.  The Clippers' first attempt to tie resulted in Swint blocking McFadden's 3-pointer and a held ball gave the home side another chance.  This time, it was Heath's turn to miss with a rebound and subsequent free throw from senior Riyan Williams (Dunkirk, MD) giving the Lightning their ninth win in 10 games.

Wilson scored 14 of his team-high 18 points in the second half on 5-of-6 shooting to help his side go for 50 percent (13-of-26).  Taite overall netted 15 points with Thompson and senior Khalil Keel (Philadelphia, PA) adding 12 apiece for the Lightning (10-3, 5-2 CACC).

Justyn Gardner poured in 21 points, Heath scored 19 and McFadden added 18 for the Clippers (3-12, 2-5), who played admirably in shooting 46 percent (31-of-68) from the field.

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against Felician as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The men's game starts at 8:00 pm, preceded by the women's 6:00 pm contest.
