Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Holds On For 92-83 Victory Over Felician

Goldey-Beacom faced an extremely resilient side in Felician and survived a contest with many ups and downs for a 92-83 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Twice in the contest GBC had a 13-point lead and both times Felician whittled it down to three.  Finally after the second comeback, the Lightning had enough of this and went on a 12-3 run to gain a 77-65 lead with 5:18 remaining.  Seniors Shakeem Wilson (Brooklyn, NY) and Parris Ridgeway-Higgs (New Castle, DE) scored five points apiece to help the Lightning shoot 5-of-7 from the field in that span.

The Lightning in the second half possessed a 47-39 edge on the scoreboard by shooting 52 percent (16-of-31) from the field to go with five 3-pointers.  A balanced attack in the stanza saw sophomore Rachid Shimou (Piscataway, NJ) pour in nine points with Wilson and Ridgeway-Higgs getting eight apiece for GBC, which forced Felician in the half to commit 10 turnovers.

Wilson ended with 22 points – two off his season high – on 8-of-12 shooting with four 3-pointers in the Lightning's fourth straight win and 10th in their last 11 contests.  Ridgeway-Higgs and senior Riyan Williams (Dunkirk, MD) scored 15 points apiece with junior Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) adding 14 for GBC, which shot 56 percent (35-of-63) overall from the field.

Shimou and sophomore Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) scored nine points apiece for the Lightning.

Terrell Spaulding and Gjaimeir Stanford scored 17 points apiece with Bryant Webb and William Phelps getting 12 each for the Golden Falcons (6-11, 3-6 CACC), who shot 48 percent (30-of-63) from the floor.

GBC (11-3, 6-2) now finds itself in a three-way tie for first place in the CACC South Division with Wilmington and Philadelphia U.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Saturday at Dominican (NY) as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The men's game starts at 3:00 pm, preceded by the women's 1:00 pm contest.
