Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Williams Leads the Way for Men’s Basketball in 98-71 Triumph at Dominican (NY)

Senior Riyan Williams (Dunkirk, MD) had a first half to remember and closed the game with a season-best 25 points in lifting Goldey-Beacom to its fifth straight victory, a 98-71 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rout of Dominican (NY) in Orangeburg, NY.

Williams was the main attraction in the opening half, scoring 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting to give GBC a 54-35 lead.  The Lightning shot an eye-popping 62 percent (21-of-34) from the floor in the half, owned a 23-14 rebounding edge and a 35-7 advantage in bench points.

The deciding run in the half was a 24-9 burst in just over six minutes that gave the Lightning a 46-22 lead with 4:11 remaining.  William scored eight points in the half with sophomore Rachid Shimou (Piscataway, NJ) adding six.

Williams ended the contest shooting 11-of-15 from the floor and besting his previous high of 19 points set January 4 against Caldwell.  It is the 11th time he has scored in double figures this season and sixth in the last seven contests.

Shimou closed with 14 points and nine rebounds, Sameen Swint (Sicklerville, NJ) had 10 and 10 for his first double-double of the season, fellow senior Shakeem Wilson (Brooklyn, NY) poured in 13 points with senior Khalil Keel (Philadelphia, PA) and junior Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) adding 11 apiece for the Lightning.

GBC shot 55 percent (36-of-66) overall from the floor, posted a 45-37 rebounding edge and snapped a four-game skid against Dominican.  The winning streak is one short of a season-best six-game run accomplished from November 22-December 12, 2016.

Daniel Grant scored 15 points on 7-of-14 shooting with Sayon Charles adding 13 for the Chargers, who shot 40 percent (28-of-70) from the field.

GBC remains tied with Wilmington (7-2) for second place in the CACC South and one-half game behind Philadelphia U. (8-2).

Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday makes the trip to Lakewood, NJ to visit Georgian Court as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The men's game starts at 8:00 pm, preceded by the women's 6:00 pm contest.
