Men’s Soccer Sets Team Record in 1-1 Tie at Bloomfield

For the first time in school history, Goldey-Beacom is unbeaten in its four Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games and it achieved this with a 1-1 tie at Bloomfield in Bloomfield, NJ.

The Lightning (5-1-1, 3-0-1 CACC) knew they would have their hands full against the reigning league champions and the result moves them into a tie with Caldwell (3-1-1) for second place with 10 points.  Georgian Court (4-1), which GBC defeated on Wednesday, is tops with 12 points.

Bloomfield (2-4-1, 1-2-1) owned a 7-2 shots advantage in the first half and took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute.  Thulani Hove was sent on a one-on-one thanks to a pass from Mauricio Torrealba and put a shot inside the right post for his first goal of the season.

Goldey-Beacom in the 61st minute got the break it was looking to forge a 1-1 draw.  Bloomfield goalkeeper Wilson Cisneros came out to play the ball and junior Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, Brazil) found an open net for his third goal of the season and sixth career.

The Lightning in the first 10-minute overtime had two good looks.  Junior Fernando Sanchez (Madrid, Spain) shot high in the second minute and sophomore Chahin Aghrim (Bonn, Germany), the reigning CACC Player of the Week, had his shot blocked in the fifth minute.

Aghrim closed with three shots and sophomore Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa), the reigning CACC Defensive Player of the Week, closed with six saves for the Lightning.

Shaunavon DeSouza attempted five shots and Cisneros made three saves for the Bears (2-4-1, 1-2-1).

Goldey-Beacom hits the road Wednesday to visit Chestnut Hill at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School in Plymouth Meeting, PA.  The men's game is at 4:30 pm, which precedes the women's 7:00 pm contest.
