Women’s Tennis Rolls to 7-2 Triumph Over Wilmington (DE)

Goldey-Beacom amassed straight-set wins in all of its victories and remained perfect on the season with a 7-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Wilmington (DE) at the Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, DE.

GBC (2-0, 2-0 CACC) grabbed a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion of the tie. Freshmen Alma Garcia Valle (Valladolid, Spain) and Silvia Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) posted an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles over Sabrina Blasi-Smith and Dorotea Rankovic before seniors Nina Sengl (Puchheim, Germany) and Francesca Beg (Westbury, England) notched an 8-6 win at first doubles over Begona Gomar and Laura Gil.

Freshman Lea Schmuecker (Marburg, Germany) got a 7-5, 6-1 victory at first singles over Anushka Sathe and Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) recorded a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles vs. Gomar for the Wildcats (1-2, 0-1). Garcia Valle posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at fourth singles over Blasi-Smith, Sengl left with a 6-2, 6-3 win vs. Milica Knezevic at No. 5 singles and Silvia Hortelano Pey notched a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Rankovic at sixth singles.

Sengl's victory at singles was her 33rd career, moving her into a tie with Vanessa Leon (2009-13) for seventh place in school history.

Goldey-Beacom is off until September 25, when it visits Caldwell for a noon encounter.
