Cross Country Opens 2016 at the DSU Hornet Invitational

A strong showing against more than solid competition was on display in Smyrna, DE as Goldey-Beacom raised the curtain on the 2016 season at the DSU Hornet Invitational.

The women's side once again was anchored by junior Jordan Dodson (Port Deposit, MD, who turned an impressive start into a ninth-place finish that was second among non-Division I competition. She stopped the clock in 21:53.10 over the 5,000-meter course.

Junior Crystal McCollum (Elkton, MD) was 18th in 23:11.20, freshman Katie Jensen (Selbyville, DE) ended 34th in 27:03.20, Chelby McCall (Chesapeake City, MD) was 43rd in 29:53.5, fellow sophomore Kayla Lucas (Port Deposit, MD) ran in 33:57.00 and sophomore Julianna Wasiluk (Lviv, Ukraine) closed in 40:07.

The women finished sixth with 139 points and Maryland-Eastern Shore was tops with 32.

The men's unit for GBC was paced by freshman Adam Quann (Pennsville, NJ), who ended 17th overall and sixth among non-Division I runners in 18:11.00 over 5,000 meters. Junior Victor Rueda-Jimenez (Milford, DE) closed 20th in 18:38.30 and senior Rudy Braxton (Bear, DE) was 24th in 19:16.70.

Junior Jevon Sample (Lewes, DE) ended 26th in 19:57.10, senior Ludric Francis (Smyrna, DE) ran in 21:08.20, Josh Shultz (Easton, PA) finished in 21:46.90 and fellow junior Solomon Cox (Rehobeth Beach, DE) stopped the clock in 24:27.30.

GBC ended with 118 points to close fifth and UMES took the men's crown with 17 points.

Goldey-Beacom is in action next Saturday at the Bill Fritz Invitational in Harrison Twp., NJ. The women go at 11:00 am and the men start at 11:45 am.
