Softball Drops Two at Georgian Court

Goldey-Beacom hung tough in both contests before Georgian Court pulled away for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader sweep, 10-2 and 11-1, in Lakewood, NJ.

Georgian Court in the first inning of game one got back-to-back RBI singles from Kelly Hardiman and Alycia Marsello for a 2-0 lead.  GBC tied it, 2-2, in the top of the second when freshman Shelby Murphy (Laurel, DE) scored on a passed ball and junior Paulynn Mao (Anaheim, CA) crossed home on an error.

Leading 3-2 entering the last of the fourth, the Lions erupted for four runs to grab a five-run cushion.  Caroline Abin lined an RBI double, Marsello continued her red-hot day with a run-scoring single and Angela Lakatos added a two-run single.

Georgian Court got two more in the sixth on Bryana Smith's leadoff home run and Marsello's RBI double, making it 9-2.  Taylor Boltersdorf's RBI single in the sixth ended things via the run rule.

Lakatos (3-9) had a no-hitter through 5 1/3 innings and could have ended with a goose egg in the fifth had she driven home a run from second.  Still, she permitted a single from Murphy in the sixth as well as two unearned runs over six frames.  Marsello went 4-for-4 with four RBI.

Dingmans Ferry, PA sophomore Natalie Mickles (3-8) allowed seven runs – four earned – and nine hits over 3 2/3 innings for the Lightning.

With game two tied at 1-1, the Lions got five across in the second for a 6-1 lead.  Breanna Keelan lined an RBI double, Boltersdorf got a run-scoring single coupled with another tally on an error and Abin followed with a two-run double.

Georgian Court (5-25, 4-8 CACC) got five more in the fourth for the final, keyed by Marsello's two-run homer.  Abin and Hardiman each preceded that with an RBI double.

Marsello had two hits to end her day 6-for-7 with Boltersdorf, Abin and Brianna LaFiura also amassing two hits.  Jessica O'Neil (1-9) permitted one run and six hits over five innings with five strikeouts.

Freshman Rachel Davis (Bethel, DE) had two hits and East Windsor, NJ freshman Alyssa Giampolo (3-7) was breached for 10 runs – nine earned – and 12 hits over three innings for the Lightning (6-22, 2-12).

Goldey-Beacom's Thursday doubleheader at West Chester was postponed and re-scheduled for Tuesday, April 19 at 2:30 pm.  GBC tentatively is scheduled to host Concordia (NY) on Saturday, but it could be altered by impending weather.  Please check with GBCAthletics.com and Twitter (@GBCLightning) for updates.
