Softball Handed Two Tough Losses at East Stroudsburg

Goldey-Beacom engaged in a pair of battles with East Stroudsburg and was dealt two tough setbacks, 2-1 and 10-7, in East Stroudsburg, PA.

The Warriors in game one took a 1-0 lead in the last of the second inning.  Danielle Dungee singled, pinch-runner Kendra Barlotta stole second, took third on Rae Holden's flyout and crossed home on Sierra Wagner's two-out single to left.

ESU tacked on another run in the fourth for a 2-0 margin.  Dungee drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a fielder's choice, took third on an error and scored on Wagner's RBI single to right.

The Lightning threatened in the sixth when sophomore Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, PA) drew a leadoff walk and junior Ryann Farley (Barnegat, NJ) followed by reaching on an error, but the next three batters were retired.

GBC got one back in the seventh, but could not get the second.  Freshman Rachel Davis (Bethel, DE) induced a leadoff walk, reached second on a one-out wild pitch and scored on a double from sophomore Kylie Doyle (Tower City, PA).  But sophomore Lauren Conway (Hammonton, NJ) flew out and Brandle followed suit for the final.

Davis and junior Paulynn Mao (Anaheim, CA) had two hits apiece with Dingmans Ferry, PA sophomore Natalie Mickles (3-7) yielding two runs – one earned – and four hits over 3 1/3 innings.

Wagner went 3-for-3 and Rachael Liguori (7-7) allowed one run and seven hits over seven innings with three strikeouts for the Warriors.

GBC in game two grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first.  Farley had an infield single and took second on Brandle's sacrifice bunt.  She stole third and scored on Mao's single to center field.

The Warriors (13-13) got that run back in the first on Heather Visco's one-out home run and threatened later in the frame with the next three batters reaching base.  But freshman hurler Alexa Calareso (Millville, NJ) finally figured out Wagner by getting her on a fielder's choice and Cristina Coppola grounded out to end the frame.

The Lightning (6-20) grabbed the lead, 2-1, in the second when freshman Shelby Murphy (Laurel, DE) doubled and scored on a groundout from junior Charlee King (New Castle, DE).

Visco in the third did her thing again by clobbering a leadoff home run for a 2-2 tie before Wagner regained her hitting form with an RBI single, making it 3-2.  The Warriors got five more in the fourth, keyed by Haley Thomas's two-run single and Holden's two-run double, for an 8-2 margin.

Trailing 10-3 entering the sixth, the Lightning plated four runs in the frame to make things interesting.  Conway had a fielder's choice that scored Murphy, Farley drew a bases-loaded walk, Mao lifted a sacrifice fly and Davis lined an RBI single to right for a 10-7 game.

Murphy had two hits and Calareso (0-3) allowed three runs and four hits over two innings.

Thomas went 3-for-3 and Visco also had three hits for the Warriors.  Amanda Carlin (4-2) permitted seven runs – three earned – and five hits over five innings.

Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday plays at Georgian Court in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader.  First pitch in Lakewood, NJ is at 3:00 pm.
