Softball Handed a Pair of Losses by Bloomfield

Goldey-Beacom led close games slip away late each time and was dealt a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference setbacks, 7-1 and 7-3, by Bloomfield at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

Ahead 1-0 entering the fourth inning of game one, the Bears plated three runs to open a 4-0 lead.  Jamie Cook scored on a throwing error, Paige Lafferty lined an RBI single and Veronica Cobos drilled an RBI triple.

Bloomfield got three more in the fifth for a 7-0 cushion, thanks to Stephanie Miller scoring on a wild pitch and Cook lacing a two-run single to left.

Kirsten Wilson (12-7) struck out six over seven innings for the Bears (22-21, 13-13 CACC), who clinched a spot in the CACC Tournament.  She allowed just one run and three hits in facing only three batters above the minimum.

Wilson also collected three hits with Cook, Lafferty and Mariah Frazier getting two apiece for Bloomfield, which ended with 11.

East Windsor, NJ freshman Alyssa Giampolo (4-13) had an RBI double, but permitted seven runs – four earned – and 10 hits over five innings with a strikeout for GBC.

Bloomfield blew open game two with a four-run fifth inning, all with two outs, for a 6-1 lead.  Faith Apolskis scored on an error, Cook lined an RBI single, Annette Daw drew a bases-loaded walk and Aubrey Orr crossed home on an error.

Senior Alivia Schoff (Colora, MD) in her final home game had an RBI single in the first inning and freshman Rachel Davis (Bethel, DE) lined a two-run single in the seventh for the Lightning.

Apolskis had two triples in the contest with the Bears amassing three for the game and four on the day.  Orr and Lafferty also had two hits with Miller (6-10) yielding three runs and seven hits over seven innings.

Davis and junior Ryann Farley (Barnegat, NJ) had two hits apiece and Dingmans Ferry, PA sophomore Natalie Mickles (4-14) gave up six unearned runs and eight hits over 4 2/3 innings for the Lightning (9-37, 3-23).
