Softball Falls Twice at Holy Family



Going against a squad battling for a higher seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, Goldey-Beacom was dealt a doubleheader sweep at Holy Family in Bensalem, PA.
 
The Tigers grabbed a 6-1 victory in the opener before an 8-0 triumph in the nightcap.
 
Holy Family struck first in the opening inning when Taylor Favinger lined an RBI double and Samantha Klem followed with a two-run homer for a 3-0 margin.  Kristine Casey doubled the margin to 6-0 in the third when she clubbed a three-run blast.
 
GBC got its run in the top of the fourth.  Sophomore Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, PA) reached on a bunt single, took second on a single by freshman Alyssa Giampolo (East Windsor, NJ), reached third on a groundout from junior Charlee King (New Castle, DE) and scored on a groundout from sophomore Kylie Doyle (Tower City, PA).
 
Doyle closed with two hits and Giampolo (4-12) allowed six runs – three earned – and six hits over six innings with a strikeout.
 
Koreen Orozco (12-8) permitted just one run and four hits over seven innings for the Tigers in facing only four batters above the minimum. 
 
Leading 1-0 entering the fourth inning of game two, Holy Family struck for three runs.  Orozco cross home on a fielder's choice and Brianna Scotto ripped a two-run homer.
 
The Tigers added four more in the sixth for a run-rule win.  Jennifer Trapp scored on an error, Klem had an RBI groundout and Alexis Maggi's grounder was misplayed that allowed two runs to cross home.
 
Dingmans Ferry, PA sophomore Natalie Mickles (4-13) gave up eight runs – one earned – and nine hits over 5 2/3 innings for the Lightning (9-35, 3-21 CACC).
 
Bailey Walters (10-7) struck out six and allowed just four hits over 5 2/3 scoreless innings for the Tigers (23-15, 15-7).
 
Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday for Senior Day against Bloomfield, starting at 1:00 pm.
