Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Gains Split With Millersville

Freshman Alyssa Giampolo (East Windsor, NJ) tossed her second shutout of the year and drove home the deciding run for Goldey-Beacom, which notched a 3-0 victory over regionally ranked Millersville in game two after a 5-1 loss at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

Millersville starter Cassidy Pinchorski retired the first 10 batters in game two before GBC got to her for three runs in the fourth.  Sophomore Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, PA) looped a one-out double and scored on Giampolo's double down the right-field line for a 1-0 lead.  After freshman Shelby Murphy (Laurel, DE) singled, junior Paulynn Mao (Anaheim, CA) grounded one that escaped second baseman Jaynie Black and permitted both Murphy and sophomore pinch-runner Autumn Hollis (Elkton, MD) to score for a 3-0 contest.

Giampolo (4-10) was on cruise control, retiring the game's first six batters and getting a quartet of one-two-three innings.  She tossed a four-hit shutout with a strikeout and no walks in facing just five batters above the minimum.

Brandle finished the contest with two hits.

Pinchorski (10-7) allowed three runs – one earned – and four hits over six innings for the Marauders, who entered the game 10th in the NCAA Atlantic Region rankings.

With game one tied 1-1 entering the second, the Marauders grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second.  Raeann Buskey walked, took second on Megan McCurdy's sacrifice and scored when Jamie Trewhella's bunt single also turned into a throwing error.

Millersville (23-15) made it 3-1 in the third when Kelsey Campbell dropped a squeeze bunt that allowed Brittany Smith to score.  Trewhella in the fourth led off with a single and scored on a three-base error for a 4-1 game.

Brandle in the first inning tripled and scored on Giampolo's single.  It was her sixth career triple, moving her one outside the school's career top 10 list.

Briana Andraos (13-8) pitched great for Millersville, permitting one run and four hits over seven innings.  Trewhella went 4-for-4 and Megan Hallock added two hits.

Mao had two hits and Dingmans Ferry, PA sophomore Natalie Mickles (4-11) allowed two runs – one earned – and two hits over two innings for the Lightning (9-31).

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Tuesday at 12th-ranked West Chester, starting at 2:30 pm.
