Softball Drops Two at No. 19 Caldwell

Goldey-Beacom played against yet another solid squad in 19th-ranked Caldwell and was handed a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader sweep, 12-3 and 8-0, in Caldwell, NJ.

Caldwell in the last of the second inning of game one struck for six runs, all with two out, for a 6-1 lead.  Lauren Frye lined an RBI single to left with another run scoring on an error, Caitlin McCready's fly ball brought two more home courtesy of an error, Brielle Reighn ripped an RBI double and Marisa Monasseri followed with a run-scoring single.

The Lightning shrunk the gap to 6-3 in the third when sophomore Kylie Doyle (Tower City, PA) and freshman Alyssa Giampolo (East Windsor, NJ) had back-to-back RBI singles.  Caldwell got one of those runs back in the third when Carly Testa was just getting warm with a solo home run, making it 7-3.

The Cougars, ranked second in the NCAA East Region, ended it in the sixth with five runs that culminated with Testa's two-run homer.  Kiahna Silva also had an RBI single in the inning and Monasseri added a run-scoring double.

Anaheim, CA junior Paulynn Mao (1-1) permitted six runs – one earned – and five hits over two innings with a strikeout for the Lightning.  Sophomore Lauren Conway (Hammonton, NJ) tripled and scored in the first.

Testa had three RBI with her, Monasseri, Reighn and Amy Hickman collecting two hits apiece for Caldwell.  Amber Padilla (14-2) struck out nine over six innings, allowing three unearned runs and six hits.

The Cougars in game two opened the scoring with three, second-inning runs.  Gracie Sullivan ripped a two-run double to left-center field and Frye followed with a run-scoring groundout.

Leading 4-0 entering the fifth, Caldwell plated three more for a seven-run cushion.  Monasseri had a two-out, infield single, Megan Fryday tripled her home and Testa continued her strong day with a two-run homer.

Katie Nichols in the nightcap went 3-for-3 and Testa for the doubleheader had three hits, three home runs and four RBI.  Sydney Ponto (11-7) tossed 5 1/3 scoreless frames, striking out five and allowed just four hits with a walk for the Cougars (26-10, 19-3 CACC).

Dingmans Ferry, PA sophomore Natalie Mickles (4-10) surrendered seven runs and nine hits over 4 2/3 innings for the Lightning (8-30, 3-19).

Goldey-Beacom returns home Monday for a non-conference doubleheader with Millersville, beginning at 2:30 pm.
