Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Falls Twice to Dominican (NY)

Goldey-Beacom fell victim to Jenna Maska's no-hitter in game two, an 8-0 loss, which preceded a 12-0 setback to Dominican (NY) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

Maska (6-3) simply was not going to be denied, facing just one batter above the minimum and allowing a baserunner in the first and fifth innings on errors.  She struck out three over seven innings with no walks for her second shutout of the season and seventh complete game.

Taylor Gilligan crushed a home run to left in the second inning to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead, but it was a five-run, seventh inning that was the offensive highlight.  Gilligan, Victoria Brooks, Caitlyn Hults and Shannon Haukap all had RBI singles in the frame before Jennifer Paride added a run-scoring groundout.

Hults rapped three hits with Haukap, Gilligan, Jillian Regan, Ariana Trembone and Brianna Espino all getting two as part of a 15-hit attack.

East Windsor, NJ freshman Alyssa Giampolo (3-10) permitted eight runs and 15 hits over seven innings with three strikeouts for the Lightning.

The Chargers (22-13-1, 14-3 CACC) in game one rang the bell for four runs in the top of the first.  Gilligan ripped a two-run double to left center, Regan followed with an RBI double and Anne Shiebler followed with a run-scoring single.

Three more runs crossed home in the fourth for a 7-0 margin.  Gilligan crushed an RBI single to center, Brooks lined a run-scoring single to left and Trembone added an RBI-infield single.

Five more runs reached the scoreboard in the fifth for a run-rule contest.  Elontay Collins had an RBI single, Shiebler and Brooks notched back-to-back RBI singles before Brianna Arends added a two-run single to right.

Desiree Joines (13-6) faced just three batters above the minimum, tossing a three-hit shutout with two strikeouts for her 10th complete game of the year and second shutout.  Haukap, Collins, Gilligan, Shiebler and Brooks all had two hits with Haukap and Gilligan ending with four on the day.

Millville, NJ freshman Alexa Calareso (0-4) permitted seven runs – six earned – and nine hits over 1 1/3 innings for GBC (7-27, 3-17).

Goldey-Beacom on Friday continues its run of four straight doubleheaders and seven in eight days when it visits Bridgeport.  First pitch is at 2:30 pm.
