Softball Falls Twice to Bloomsburg

A more than impressive foe was on tap for Goldey-Beacom as it was dealt a pair of losses, 6-0 and 11-0, to Bloomsburg at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

The Huskies in game one scored twice in the top of the third inning as Emily Mahew ripped an RBI single and Taylor Parker added an RBI double.  The margin grew to 3-0 in the fifth when Mahew lined a run-scoring single down the left-field line.

Bloomsburg (17-4) made sure the lead would hold with three insurance runs in the seventh.  Mallory Tomaschik lined a two-run single to center and Alexa Erney added a run-scoring single through the left side.

Mahew, Tomaschik and Taylor Winkelman all had two hits for the Huskies.  Parker struck out six over seven innings, allowing just five hits and a walk.

Dingmans Ferry, PA sophomore Natalie Mickles (1-3) permitted six runs and 11 hits over seven innings with one strikeout.

The Huskies in the first inning of game two sent eight batters to the plate and scored three times.  Mahew and Parker had back-to-back RBI doubles and Tomaschik followed with a run-scoring single.

With the score 4-0, Bloomsburg plated five more runs in the third.  Holly Peacock lined an RBI single to right and then scored on Valerie Carcasses' squeeze bunt that also plated Erica Keen as a result of an error.  Mayhew lined an RBI single and Parker followed with a run-scoring double.

Mayhew went 3-for-3 with two RBI and Parker had two hits and two RBI.  Alyssa Davies (1-0) fired the last two innings, giving up just one walk, after Sarah Bortner permitted only one hit over the first three frames.

East Windsor, NJ freshman Alyssa Giampolo (1-5) allowed six runs – five earned – and six hits over 2 1/3 innings for the Lightning (2-12).

Goldey-Beacom is home Wednesday for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Philadelphia University, starting at 2:30 pm.
