Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Handed Two Losses at Post

Goldey-Beacom ran into a perennially strong side in Post and was handed a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference losses, 8-0 and 5-1, in Waterbury, CT.

Post in game one scored all of the runs it would need in the third inning, opening a 3-0 lead.  Kayla Kresley laced a ground-rule double to plate Natalie Lennox and then scored along with Kaitlin Iacomini as Erica Ragazzone followed with a two-run single.

The Eagles added two more in the fourth for a 5-0 cushion as Iacomini drew a bases-loaded walk and Kresley followed with a sacrifice fly.  The lead grew to 6-0 in the fifth when Marissa Cammarano laced a two-out double that plated Marissa Wilson.

Post then concluded things in the sixth via the run rule.  Iacomini led off with a triple and Kresley followed with a home run for the last of her four RBI.

Juniors Ryann Farley (Barnegat, NJ) and Paulynn Mao (Anaheim, CA) each had two hits and East Windsor, NJ freshman Alyssa Giampolo (1-4) permitted five runs and six hits over 3 1/3 innings for the Lightning.

Iacomini, Kresley, Cammarano, Lennox and Emily Schaffer all had two hits for the Eagles.  Samantha Esque (7-3) struck out six over six scoreless frames, yielding just six hits.

Post in game two struck in the first inning when Kresley reached on a two-out error and Ragazzone smacked a two-run shot for a 2-0 margin.

The Lightning got one back in the fourth for a 2-1 deficit.  Farley drew a leadoff walk, stole second and scored when a grounder from freshman Shelby Murphy (Laurel, DE) was misplayed.

The visitors had a golden chance to equalize in the fifth.  Sophomore Lauren Conway (Hammonton, NJ) hit a leadoff single, stole second, reached third on Farley's bunt single, but was thrown out at home on an attempted double steal.

The Eagles (8-11, 2-1 CACC) in the fifth got two insurance runs as Iacomini drew a two-out walk and Kresley followed with a two-run blast for a 4-1 contest.  Lennox in the sixth inning induced a bases-loaded walk to make it 5-1.

Murphy and Farley each collected two hits for GBC (2-10, 0-6).  Dingmans Ferry, PA sophomore Natalie Mickles (1-2) gave up five runs – two earned – and six hits over six innings.

Schaffer had two hits in the contest and Leslie Denis (2-5) allowed just one run and four hits over four innings with four strikeouts.  Esque fired three scoreless innings, giving up just two hits for her first save of the year.

Please note Goldey-Beacom's doubleheader Sunday against Bloomsburg has been postponed.  It will be played Tuesday, beginning at 3:00 pm in Wilmington.
