Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Handed Two Tough Losses at Felician

Goldey-Beacom brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the seventh inning of both games at Felician, but fell each time by scores of 3-2 and 4-2 during Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play in Lyndhurst, NJ.

The Golden Falcons put up a picket fence in the third, fourth and fifth innings to grab a 3-0 lead.  Jackie Duenas had an RBI groundout to score Zeaenna Brackett, Steph Donah ripped a run-scoring single to plate Brynne Bauman and Racquel Manzo added an RBI single to score Victoria Quercia.

The Lightning then scored twice in the top of the seventh to make things interesting.  Junior Amber Wroble (Mechanicville, MD) lifted a sacrifice fly to score freshman Shelby Murphy (Laurel, DE) for a 3-1 game and a throwing error allowed the tying runs to get in scoring position.  Freshman pinch-hitter Alyssa Giampolo (East Windsor, NJ) walked and sophomore Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, PA) lined an RBI single for a one run game, but junior Ryann Farley (Barnegat, NJ) struck out swinging to end it.

Brandle closed with two of her squads six hits.  Tower City, PA sophomore Kylie Doyle (0-2) permitted two runs and six hits over 3 2/3 innings.

Brackett went 3-for-3 with Donah and Alicia DeFlaviis each rapping two hits.  Ashley Owens (2-5) struck out six over seven innings, allowing just two unearned runs and six hits with one walk.

Felician (8-10, 2-0 CACC) in game two opened the scoring with a three-run fifth inning.  Amanda Lopez lifted a sacrifice fly, Manzo followed with an RBI triple and Jeannette Roldan took her turn with a run-scoring triple of her own.

GBC (2-4, 0-2) got back on track in the top of the sixth when junior Paulynn Mao (Anaheim, CA) lined an RBI single up the middle to plate junior Charlee King (New Castle, DE) for a 3-1 contest.  Felician got that run back in the last of the frame on Duenas' run-scoring single, scoring Miranda Torres.

The score remained 4-1 with two outs in the seventh when King's grounder was misplayed, allowing sophomore pinch-runner Autumn Hollis (Elkton, MD) to cross home for a 4-2 contest.  The tying runs now were in scoring position, but Murphy popped out to shortstop for the finale.

Giampolo (1-1), the league's Rookie of the Week two weeks ago, gave up three runs and seven hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Erin Powers (3-4), who had a no-hitter going through four innings, closed with two runs allowed – one earned – and four hits over seven innings with four strikeouts for Felician.  Brackett had two hits to end her day 5-for-7 with Manzo and Roldan getting two hits apiece.

Goldey-Beacom continues its season-opening 14-game road trip Monday at West Chester, starting at 2:30 pm Daylight Saving Time.
