Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Second-Quarter Outburst Propels Women’s Basketball to Triumph Over Concordia

Goldey-Beacom seized momentum in the second quarter and never looked back in a big 64-47 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Concordia (NY) at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

GBC was down 15-5 with 3:13 left in the first quarter when it embarked on a 15-2 run for a 20-17 lead just 30 seconds into the second period.  Freshman Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) scored seven points in that spurt to help her side shoot 5-of-7 from the floor.

The Lightning found themselves down 23-22 with 8:05 left in the half when they scored the next 20 points to grab a 42-23 lead with 7:36 remaining in the third quarter.  Six different players for GBC found the scorebook in that spurt with sophomore Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) and freshman Candice Berner (Frederick, MD) netting five points apiece.

The Clippers finally cracked the scoreboard again on Hadiyah Black's jumper with 6:04 to play in the third, but not before they were held scoreless for 12 minutes and committed nine turnovers in that span.

GBC in the second quarter outscored Concordia 19-6 and shot 8-of-17 from the field.  Berner and sophomore Mikila Stefanski (Hammonton, NJ) scored five points apiece in that span for the Lightning, who forced the Clippers into eight turnovers in the period.

Sophomore Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) ended with 14 points and six assists, Berner had 13 points and nine rebounds, Stefanski scored 11 points with Bryson adding 10 and nine rebounds for GBC, which shot 48 percent (14-of-29) from the field in the first half and 40 percent (24-of-60) overall.  Stefanski hit three 3-pointers and has 62 this season, three off Bruno's single-season school record from last year.

Jessica Rosalbo scored 13 points, Khadijah Donaldson netted 10 and Black hauled in 16 rebounds for the Clippers (4-18, 2-13 CACC), who shot 35 percent (19-of-54) from the floor and only 2-of-16 from 3-point range.

Goldey-Beacom (7-16, 7-7 CACC) moves into a tie with Chestnut Hill (7-7) for the fourth and final conference tournament from the South Division with five games remaining.  Wilmington (7-8) sits one-half game out.

Goldey-Beacom is home Thursday for a rescheduled doubleheader against Dominican (NY).  Please note the women's game starts at 5:00 pm and the men's contest begins at 7:00 pm.
