Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Falls, 79-71, to Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom cut a 19-point second-half deficit to six in the closing minutes, but was handed a 79-71 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss by Holy Family at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The third quarter was all Holy Family, which shot 7-of-13 from the floor in that stretch and limited Goldey-Beacom to only 3-of-21.  Abigail Iannotti and Erin Fenningham scored six points apiece in the period for the Tigers, who had an 18-7 edge on the scoreboard in that span for a 60-41 lead.

The margin was at 66-48 with 6:38 to play when the Lightning rattled off 12 straight points in three minutes for a 66-60 deficit.  Freshman Candice Berner (Frederick, MD) netted seven points in that span, ending things on a 3-pointer.

But Holy Family found its bearings and regained control with a 7-2 run for a 73-62 lead with 2:13 to play.  Fenningham and Kasey Woetzel each had a layup in that span before Jill Conroy ended it with a big 3-pointer.

Fenningham scored 20 points with four 3-pointers, Iannotti had 16 and nine rebounds with Woetzel and Conroy getting 14 points apiece for the Tigers (16-6, 11-2 CACC), who shot 46 percent (28-of-61) from the floor.

Sophomore Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) scored 19 points to go with six assists and six steals for the Lightning.  She also hit two 3-pointers to give her 118 career, moving her into sole possession of third place in school history.  Bruno earlier today was named the top Division II Women's Basketball Player shorter than five feet, five inches by Hero Sports.

Sophomore Mikila Stefanski (Hammonton, NJ) scored 11 points, junior Jazz Lewis (Mount Holly, NJ) netted 10 and sophomore Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) had 10 rebounds for the Lightning.

GBC (6-16, 6-7) now sits one game behind Chestnut Hill (7-6) for the fourth and final conference-tournament spot from the South Division with six games left.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday vs. Concordia (NY) as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game begins at 1:00 pm, followed by the men's 3:00 pm contest.
