Bruno Hits Another Milestone in Women’s Basketball’s Loss at Caldwell

Sophomore Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) continued to ascend the scoring ladder, but Goldey-Beacom ran into torrid shooting from Caldwell and was handed a 69-55 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss in Caldwell, NJ.

Caldwell early in the second quarter scored 12 straight points in just over two minutes to open a 31-16 lead with 6:48 remaining.  Kristen Drogsler went on a tear with seven points in that span, which ended with Nicole Angelo burying a 3-pointer.

The Cougars had matters settled by gaining a 39-29 halftime lead, shooting 44 percent (16-of-36) from the field and 6-of-16 from 3-point range.  Drogsler netted 12 points in the half on 5-of-9 shooting and Angelo went off for nine on a trio of 3-pointers.

Bruno continued to be the story for the Lightning, ending with a game-high 23 points to go with nine rebounds and three 3-pointers.  She became the ninth player in school history to reach 900 career points and then passed former teammate Lillian Chukwueze for eighth place.  Bruno now stands at 908 points and is averaging 16.8 points per game for her career.

Freshman Candice Berner (Frederick, MD) scored a career-best 14 points and has reached double figures in four of her last five contests.  Sophomore Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) recorded 11 points and 11 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season and 17th career.

Drogsler was sensational with 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting, 10 rebounds, three 3-pointers, five blocked shots and four steals.  Angelo netted 15 points on five 3-pointers, Sharell Sanders recorded 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists with Antoinette Pilla adding 10 points for Caldwell (18-7, 13-3 CACC), which shot 42 percent (27-of-65) from the field.

GBC (8-17, 8-8) now moves one game in back of Chestnut Hill (9-7) for the fourth and final conference-tournament spot from the South Division with just three games left.

Goldey-Beacom is back on the road Wednesday at University of the Sciences as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game starts at 6:00 pm, which precedes the men's 8:00 pm contest.
