Women’s Basketball Runs Away for 78-69 Win Over Chestnut Hill



Goldey-Beacom cranked up the offense and defense in the second half to come back strong for a 78-69 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Chestnut Hill at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
The Lightning (4-5, 4-1 CACC), who were down 12 early in the second quarter, went on a 13-1 run bridging the third and fourth quarters to open a 64-55 lead with 6:35 remaining.  Junior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) scored six points in that spurt and freshman Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) added four.
 
The Griffins (5-2, 2-1) closed to 69-65 with 2:44 left on Caity Kuhnen's layup, but the Lightning scored the next seven points for a 76-65 lead with 19 seconds left for their third straight win.  Sophomore Tanner Turner-Rush scored four points in the run.
 
Junior Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) scored 21 points to go with six rebounds and five assists for the Lightning, who shot 41 percent (14-of-34) from the floor in the second half and 40 percent (26-of-65) overall.  Bryson had 20 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season and Turner-Rush matched her career high with 17 points.
 
Bryson now has 793 career points, moving into 11th place in school history.
 
Kuhnen had 19 points and 11 rebounds, Mary Trossi netted 13 points and Vicky Tumasz added 11 for the Griffins, who only shot 29 percent (8-of-28) from the field after intermission.
 
Goldey-Beacom hits the road Thursday to face New York Tech, beginning at 7:00 pm.
