Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball’s Eight-Game Winning Streak Snapped, 59-50 at Saint Rose

The eight-game winning streak for Goldey-Beacom's regionally ranked women's basketball team came to an unfortunate end with a 59-50 loss at Saint Rose in Albany, NY.

Goldey-Beacom (9-6) entered the contest tied for ninth in the latest D2SIDA East Region rankings.  Despite its best effort, the squad came up just short in trying to match its school-record winning streak from the 2012-13 season.

The Golden Knights (7-5) took control with a 13-4 run in just under eight minutes for a 51-38 lead with 6:10 remaining.  Taylor Nazon scored five points in that span for Saint Rose, which shot 5-for-9 from the field to achieve its biggest lead.

Junior Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ), the three-time defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week, certainly did not disappoint.  She poured in 20 points to go with five three-pointers and five rebounds over 38 minutes.  Bruno has scored at least 20 points nine times this season.

Junior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) had 13 points and seven rebounds with freshman Nina Bartlette (Winthrop, MA) adding six points to go with eight rebounds that matched her season high for the Lightning.

Britani Stowe scored 16 points, Karissa Birthwright netted 11 and Nazon added 10 for Saint Rose, which shot 44 percent (22-of-50) from the floor.

Goldey-Beacom is home Wednesday against 16th-ranked Caldwell as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game starts at 6:00 pm, followed by the men's 8:00 pm contest.
