Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lexi Bruno Matches Career High in Women’s Basketball’s Win at Holy Family

Junior Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) equaled her career high with 30 points and Goldey-Beacom pulled away in the second half for a 71-62 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at Holy Family in Philadelphia, PA.

Bruno simply was on fire in the opening half, scoring 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting with four rebounds and three 3-pointers, giving GBC a 32-26 lead.  The Lightning shot 48 percent (14-of-29) from the floor in the half with the Tigers hitting just 33 percent (11-of-33).

Holy Family, which never led, hung around in the third quarter by using an 11-5 run over 4 1/2 minutes for a 41-40 deficit with 4:14 remaining.  Alexis Hofstaedter, who had a day that almost matched Bruno's, scored four points in the spurt and Katie O'Hare ended it with a 3-pointer.

But GBC (3-5, 3-1 CACC) took over from there, using a 15-4 run over 6 1/2 minutes that gave it a 56-44 cushion with 7:51 remaining in the game.  Bruno poured in nine points during that span on 4-of-6 shooting with sophomore Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) adding three points.

Bruno played all 40 minutes, marking the sixth time in her career she accomplished that, and matched her point total from February 28, 2015 at Caldwell in the CACC quarterfinals.  She also shot 12-of-22 from the floor to go with seven rebounds, five assists and four 3-pointers.

Junior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) scored 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting and hauled in nine rebounds, giving her 576 career rebounds that put her eighth in team history.  Turner-Rush scored a season-best 11 points and freshman Nina Bartlette (Winthrop, MA) added 10 for the Lightning, who shot 48 percent (29-of-61) from the floor.

Hofstaedter did everything she could, scoring 28 points on 12-of-18 shooting for the Tigers, who shot 43 percent (13-of-30) from the floor in the second half and 38 percent (24-of-63) overall.  Elizabeth Radley poured in 11 points and Abigail Iannotti amassed 11 rebounds for Holy Family (1-7, 1-2), which had its four-game winning streak against GBC snapped.

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against Chestnut Hill as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game starts at 6:00 pm, which precedes the men's 8:00 pm contest.
