Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball's Six-Game Winning Streak Snapped, 85-76 at Wilmington

Junior Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) poured in a season-best 27 points and did everything to try extending Goldey-Beacom's six-game winning streak, but the run ended with an 85-76 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Wilmington (DE) in Newark, DE.

Down 69-54 with 9:36 left, the Lightning scored eight straight points to move within 69-62 with 6:50 to play.  Senior Parris Ridgeway-Higgs (New Castle, DE) did his part in the comeback by canning a pair of 3-pointers.

Thompson's layup with 2:11 remaining brought GBC within 73-67, but a technical foul took the air out of the visiting team.  Tyaire Ponzo-Meek made both free throws for an eight-point game.

After senior Nick Lawson (Woodbury, NJ) hit once from the line for the Lightning, Ponzo-Meek hit twice more from the stripe for a 77-68 margin with 1:59 left and snapped the visitors three-game road winning streak in the series.

Thompson shot 9-of-12 from the floor and 9-for-11 from the line to go with eight rebounds, but the Lightning (7-3, 3-2 CACC) only hit 40 percent (27-of-68) from the field.  Senior Riyan Williams (Dunkirk, MD) and sophomore Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) netted 14 apiece with Ridgeway-Higgs adding 10.

Omari Dill-Pettiford scored 21 points, Ponzo-Meek netted 20, Drew Johnson poured in 13 with Miles Gillette and Masner Beauplan adding 10 apiece for the Wildcats (8-5, 4-1), who shot 53 percent (29-of-55) from the floor.

Goldey-Beacom hits the road New Year's Eve to battle Millersville for the second time this season.  The Lightning opened the campaign with a 74-69 home triumph over the Marauders.
