Second-Half Dominance Helps Women’s Basketball to Sixth Straight Win, 62-43 Over New Haven



Goldey-Beacom seized control in the second half and made it six straight wins with a 62-43 triumph over New Haven at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
The Lightning held a 27-19 halftime lead by holding the Chargers to just 20 percent shooting (6-of-30) and forcing 11 turnovers.  That was all before the home side opened the second half on a 12-3 run to gain a 39-22 lead with 4:13 left in the third quarter.  Sophomore Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) drained a 3-pointer to end the spurt with freshmen Mara Poch (Girona, Spain) and Destiny Harper (Mount Solon, VA) also hitting from beyond the arc.
 
Junior Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ), the two-time defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week, scored 10 points in the half and freshman Nina Bartlette (Winthrop, MA) added eight.  This all helped GBC shoot an astounding 57 percent (13-of-23) from the field and limit New Haven to just 27 percent (8-of-30).
 
Bruno closed the game with 14 points, junior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) had 12 and 11 rebounds for her fourth straight double-double and Bartlette netted 14 for the Lightning (7-5), whose winning streak is the team's longest since a nine-game run in 2012-13.
 
Bryson moved into 10th place in school history with 840 career points and seventh with 624 rebounds.
 
Allieyah Cubbage had 17 points and 10 rebounds with Micah Wormack adding 15 rebounds for the Chargers (1-9), who shot only 23 percent (14-of-60) from the floor and have dropped six straight games.
 
Goldey-Beacom is home Friday against Shippensburg for a 7:30 pm contest.
