Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dominant Effort Sets Well for Men’s Basketball in Sixth Straight Win, 90-63 Over Pace

Goldey-Beacom put up 50 points in the second half and thoroughly dominated Pace en route to its sixth straight win, 90-63 at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Pace only dressed eight players and more than hung around, building a 17-9 lead seven minutes into the game.  But Goldey-Beacom (7-2) began to turn the tide with a 31-19 run to end the half, giving it a 40-36 lead.  The dagger was delivered by senior Shakeem Wilson (Brooklyn, NY), who hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The second half was a completely different story with the Lightning getting it done from the foul line, going 18-for-24 with the Setters only going 1-for-6.  Sophomore Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) went 7-for-9 from the line in the half as part of his 10 points, Wilson went 5-for-5 as part of his nine points and senior Parris Ridgeway-Higgs (New Castle, DE) scored 11 points.

Taite for the game shot 11-for-13 from the line and Pace as a unit went only 6-for-12.

Taite ended with 19 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season, Ridgeway-Higgs also scored 19 points, senior Riyan Williams (Dunkirk, MD) netted 18 points and Wilson added 15 for the Lightning, who shot 27-for-35 from the line and 47 percent (26-of-55) from the floor.

Ryan Peterson netted 21 points and Ray Montilus added 10 for the Setters (4-7), who shot 43 percent (26-of-60) from the field for their fourth straight loss.

Ridgeway-Higgs moved into 17th place in school history with 619 career points and 10th with 89 three-pointers.  This helped the Lightning to their longest run since also winning six straight during the 2009-10 season.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Thursday for an exhibition contest at Coppin State, beginning at 7:30 pm.
