Breakout Performances Lead Men’s Basketball to Rout of Georgian Court

Goldey-Beacom turned an interesting game early in the second half into a rout for its third straight win, 80-50 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play over Georgian Court at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning held a 42-34 lead five minutes into the second half with the game very much in doubt before using a 21-5 run to gain a 63-39 cushion with 8:44 remaining.  Riyan Williams (Dunkirk, MD) made his presence felt with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting and fellow senior Elijah Tillman (Garnerville, NY) added four.

The second half was no contest with Goldey-Beacom owning a 47-22 edge on the scoreboard by shooting a robust 58 percent (19-of-33) from the field and 7-of-14 from three-point range.  Sophomore Rachid Shimou (Piscataway, NJ) netted 11 points in the stanza and Williams closed with nine.

Williams ended with 16 points for the second straight game on 7-of-14 shooting, Tillman posted 14 points and nine rebounds with Shimou netting a career-best 14 points for GBC (4-2, 2-1 CACC), which has won all seven meetings with Georgian Court.  Senior Parris Ridgeway-Higgs (New Castle, DE) ended with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Juwuan Carter and Nikola Vujovic netted 12 points apiece for the Lions (0-7, 0-3), who shot just 36 percent (19-of-53) from the floor.  Keith Hughes scored six points and became the first player in the program's history to reach 1,000 career points.
