Women’s Basketball Handed 62-50 Loss at Molloy

A close game most of the way did not swing in Goldey-Beacom's favor as it was dealt a 62-50 loss by Molloy in Rockville Centre, NY.

Neither team led by more than five points from late in the first quarter until midway through the third.  Junior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) hit a layup with 6:39 remaining in the third to bring the Lightning with 40-39.

But the Lions then went on an 11-2 run over the next seven minutes to take control, grabbing a 51-41 lead in the opening minute of the fourth quarter.  Kathryn Gibson scored six points in that span for Molloy, which despite shooting 3-of-10 from the field in that span limited GBC to only 1-of-12.

The Lightning again played solid defense in holding the Lions to just 28 percent shooting (8-of-29) in the second half, but the visitors only could hit for 19 percent (6-of-32) in that span and were outscored 27-15.

Bryson scored nine of her 13 points in the second half and overall had nine rebounds, junior Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) recorded 10 points and five assists with promising freshman Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) adding seven points and seven rebounds for the Lightning (1-3).

Ihnacinse Grady poured in 20 points, Shantana Kanhoye netted 11 with Kamala Thompson adding eight and 10 rebounds for Molloy (4-0), which shot 34 percent (22-of-65) overall from the floor.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Tuesday at University of the Sciences as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game starts at 6:00 pm, followed by the men's 8:00 pm contest.
