Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Upends Philadelphia U., 56-50

Goldey-Beacom scored eight straight points late in the contest and got solid performances across the board in a 56-50 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Philadelphia University at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Junior Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ), honored before the contest for scoring her 1,000th point on Saturday, caused the game's ninth tie when she hit a jumper with 3:32 left for a 48-48 deadlock.

After Rachel Day missed a 3-pointer for the Rams, GBC freshman Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) announced her presence with a huge triple from the left wing for a 51-48 game with 3:05 left.  It was the contest's ninth lead change.

Bruno on the next possession stole the ball from Jackie McCarron and the Lightning (1-2, 1-0 CACC) again were in business.  With the shot clock running down, Bruno was called upon and she canned a 3-pointer with 2:17 remaining for a 54-48 contest.

Following a series of misses, Kelsey Jones brought the Rams within 54-50 with 66 seconds to play on a jumper.  But junior Margherita Giubilei (Cesena, Italy) made a layup on the other end with 39 seconds left to close the scoring.

Bruno scored 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting with eight assists, five rebounds and four 3-pointers.  She also had two steals and now is sixth in school history with 126.

Junior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) had eight points and 11 rebounds with McGrogan getting 10 points and four 3-pointers for the Lightning, who shot 44 percent (12-of-27) from the floor in the second half and 39 percent (22-of-56) overall.

Erin Maher scored 18 points, Jessica Kaminski had 13 and nine rebounds, Jackie McCarron netted 10 points and Rachel Day added nine rebounds for the Rams (1-2, 0-1), who could not overcome shooting 21 percent (4-of-19) from 3-point range and 31 percent (20-of-65) overall.
