Men’s Basketball Falls, 70-54, to No. 21 Philadelphia U.



Goldey-Beacom gave up a huge second-half run and could not recover in a 70-54 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to Philadelphia U. at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
Trailing 34-24 late in the first half, GBC used a 13-4 run carrying into the second half that helped it close to 38-37 with 17:30 remaining.  Senior Shakeem Wilson (Brooklyn, NY) scored six points and ended it with a jumper for the Lightning, who shot 5-for-6 in that span.
 
But the Rams (3-0, 1-0 CACC), who have won nine straight from the Lightning (1-2, 0-1), gained control with a 25-6 run in just over 11 minutes to open a 63-43 lead with 6:02 left.  Brendan Kilpatrick, who could not be stopped whether inside or outside, netted 10 points in the spurt with Jordan DeCicco and Kaison Randolph adding five apiece.
 
Kilpatrick closed with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting with seven rebounds and two 3-pointers over 28 minutes.  Andre Gibbs netted 16 points, DeCicco had 13 and 13 rebounds with Randolph getting 12 and 11 for the Rams, who shot 42 percent (11-of-26) from the floor in the second half and 38 percent (21-of-55) overall.
 
Elijah Tillman (Garnerville, NY) had 13 points and nine rebounds, fellow senior Parris Ridgeway-Higgs (New Castle, DE) poured in 11 points and Wilson added 10 for the Lightning, who shot 36 percent (22-of-61) from the floor but could not overcome going 3-of-22 from three-point range.
 
Philadelphia U. is ranked 21st in the country according to D2SIDA.
 
Goldey-Beacom is on the road Tuesday at University of the Sciences as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The men's game starts at 8:00 pm, which follows the women's 6:00 pm contest.
