Volleyball Ends Season With Tough 3-2 Loss to Chestnut Hill

Goldey-Beacom's first five-set match all season did not go its way, culminating the year with a 3-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss (17-25, 25-20, 11-25, 25-22, 2-15) to Chestnut Hill at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Griffins in the third set used seven kills and took advantage of eight Lightning errors to grab a 2-1 lead.  The fourth set featured many ups and down on both sides and Goldey-Beacom garnered it thanks to 12 assists from sophomore Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, VA) and 16 kills as a unit.

But Chestnut Hill in the final set used a 7-0 run to begin things and a 7-0 run to end it.  The Griffins had five kills and just one error in the stanza with the Lightning posting one and eight.

Senior Grace McCarthy (Middletown, DE) recorded career bests of 24 kills and 20 digs in her final match to go with a .293 hitting percentage.  She ends her career third in school history with 932 kills, eighth with 103 aces and her 315 kills this season is the ninth-best mark in team annals.

It also was McCarthy's eighth double-double of the season and fifth in the last seven matches.

Florence closed with 46 assists to go with 11 digs and finishes the season with 858 assists, the fourth-best total in one year for the Lightning.  She is fourth in school history with 1,565 career assists.

Freshman Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, NJ) had 13 kills and 11 digs for her seventh double-double of the campaign, junior Jada Canteen (Newark, DE) pounded 10 kills and freshman Makinsie Balderson (Fairfax, VA) notched 11 digs for the Lightning (11-15, 6-13 CACC).

Emily Koehler had 12 kills and a .500 percentage, Madison McBride notched 11 kills, Samantha Gelfan recorded 10 and Kennedy Sutton amassed 36 assists and 10 digs for the Griffins (13-15, 11-8).

Despite the loss, the Lightning recorded a four-win improvement in both their overall and conference records with 11 underclassmen on the roster.
