Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lexi Bruno Reaches 1,000 Career Points in Women’s Basketball’s Loss to AIC

In one of the most anticipated milestones which seemed destined the moment she stepped foot on campus, junior Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) eclipsed 1,000 career points despite Goldey-Beacom being handed a 68-52 loss to American International in Philadelphia, PA.

Bruno, a first-team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference pick last season and one of the nation's most explosive players, broke the mark on a layup with 4:26 left in the second quarter to become the College's eight player to reach this milestone.  She finished with 28 points, two shy of her career best, on 11-of-17 shooting to go with five assists and four 3-pointers.

Bruno already was second in school history in assists (299) and third in 3-pointers (134) entering today.  Her four steals over the two games this weekend puts her at 124, tied for sixth in team history.

In addition to being named last season the best Division II player under 5'5" by Hero Sports, Bruno in 2014-15 was picked the CACC Rookie of the Year, second team all-league and a member of the CACC All-Tournament Team.

A close game through the first 20 minutes went the Yellow Jackets' way over the final 20, courtesy of a 33-22 half in which they went 12-for-17 from the line and the Lightning only 1-for-2.  Alyssa Guyon scored 11 points in the half with Jayda Gilmore adding eight for AIC.

Junior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) closed the game with eight points and nine rebounds for the Lightning (0-2), who shot 42 percent (23-of-55) from the floor but only were 4-of-16 from three-point range.

Dana Watts had 20 points and 12 rebounds in going 12-for-13 from the stripe, Guyon scored 16 points, Gilmore netted 13 and Imani Stepney added 12 for the Yellow Jackets (1-1).

Goldey-Beacom plays its home and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener Wednesday against Philadelphia U. as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game starts at 6:00 pm, which precedes the men's 8:00 pm contest.
