Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Handed 2-1 Loss at Dominican (NY)

Goldey-Beacom held Dominican (NY) at bay for most of the contest, but a late goal from senior Becca Cordo (Roosevelt, NJ) was not enough in a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss in Orangeburg, NY.

The Chargers cracked the scoreboard in the 51st minute when Leanne Lavelle scored a long goal from the right side for her first tally of the season.  Jenna Gray gave Dominican a huge insurance tally in the 87th minute when she netted her fifth goal of the year.

Cordo gave her squad some life with 1:36 left when she netted her third goal of the season and 11th career.  But the Lightning could not get a second goal and saw their four-game unbeaten streak snapped.

Junior Amy Runciman (Luton, England) attempted six shots and senior Cindell Aguirre (El Paso, TX) made four saves for GBC (8-3-1, 4-2-1 CACC), which closed with a 16-7 shots edge and a 10-5 corner-kicks advantage.

Angelica Contreras made 10 saves that included eight in the second half and Gray had two shots for the Chargers (4-7, 4-3).

The loss drops the Lightning into a tie for sixth place in the CACC with five games remaining.  The league's top eight teams go to the conference tournament.

Goldey-Beacom is home next Wednesday against Philadelphia University, beginning at 3:00 pm.
