Goldey-Beacom swept the doubles matches and did not drop a set in its singles triumphs for a convincing 8-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, PA.

The doubles were highlighted by Raquel Morais (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and freshman Lea Schmuecker (Marburg, Germany) rallying from a 5-2 deficit to defeat Karla Miletic and Julia James 9-8 (7-3) at No. 2 doubles.  Seniors Nina Sengl (Puchheim, Germany) and Francesca Beg (Westbury, England) won 8-4 over Abbygail Gamarnik and Elkanah Linder at first doubles with freshmen Alma Garcia Valle (Valladolid, Spain) and Silvia Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) notching an 8-0 triumph at No. 3 doubles over Jillyan Serrano and Gabrielle Soriano.

Freshman Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at second singles over Linder and Beg won by the same score at No. 3 singles vs. Gamarnik.  Garcia Valle got an 8-2 victory over Jones at fourth singles, Sengl recorded an 8-0 triumph vs. Serrano at No. 5 singles and Silvia Hortelano Pey posted an 8-0 victory at sixth singles over Soriano.

Sengl, voted September's CACC Student-Athlete of the Month, now has 38 doubles wins to place her in a tie with Gabriela Chaves (2010-14) for fourth in school history.  Her 36 singles wins matches her with Luciana Pereira (2008-11) for sixth place.

GBC (5-0, 5-0 CACC) has clinched a first-round bye for the CACC Tournament and will compete in the semifinals a ninth straight year.  The league start is its best since opening 6-0 in 2012 and the overall start is its best since beginning 8-0 in 2010-11.

Goldey-Beacom's home match against Post has been moved up to Friday at 2:00 pm due to the threat of Hurricane Matthew.  The Lightning with a victory can clinch the top seed in the conference tournament for the first time in team history.
