Women’s Tennis Completes Perfect CACC Regular Season

Goldey-Beacom for the first time in school history completed a perfect regular season in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, accomplishing this with an 8-0 victory at Holy Family in Philadelphia, PA.

GBC (7-0, 7-0 CACC), which already had clinched the top seed in the CACC Tournament for the first time in school history, also is off to its best start since opening a team-record 8-0 in 2010-11.

Freshmen Alma Garcia Valle (Valladolis, Spain) and Silvia Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) got things going with an 8-0 victory at third doubles, freshman Lea Schmuecker (Marburg, Germany) and junior Raquel Morais (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) followed with an 8-2 triumph at No. 2 doubles, and seniors Nina Sengl (Puchheim, Germany) and Francesca Beg (Westbury, England) recorded an 8-6 win at first doubles.

Beg notched a 6-2, 6-1 victory at second singles over Sophie Beck, Garcia Valle recorded a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles vs. Emerald Adams and Sengl got an 8-1 triumph at fourth singles over Christina Little. Hortelano Pey recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth singles vs. Latifah Hinawy and sophomore Manuela Cornejo (Waldbronn, Germany) picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles over Megan Moyer for the Tigers (6-5, 2-5).

Sengl, Garcia Valle and Hortelano Pey all improved to 7-0 at singles, Sengl and Beg are 7-0 at doubles with Hortelano Pey and Garcia Valle moving to 6-0 at doubles.

Beg also is the reigning CACC Player of the Week and Garcia Valle made the Weekly Honor Roll.

Goldey-Beacom is home next Thursday to face New York Tech, beginning at 1:00 pm.
