Softball Swept at Dominican (NY)

Goldey-Beacom ended its play in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a pair of losses, 11-1 and 9-1, at Dominican (NY) in Orangeburg, NY.

Things began real well for the Lightning in the top of the first inning when junior Alivia Schoff (Colora, MD) blasted a solo home run for her first long ball of the season and fourth career.

The Chargers grabbed their first lead in the bottom of the frame when Jillian Regan launched a two-run homer for a 2-1 margin.

Dominican then scored five times in the last of the second for a 7-1 lead.  Ariana Trembone had a sacrifice that resulted in a run, Shannon Haukup lined an RBI single, Regan reached on an error that allowed another run, Shannon Truppi had a run-scoring single and Jacqueline Gonzalez got an RBI groundout.

Regan closed with three RBI and Alyssa Schwed amassed three hits for the Chargers.  Madison Dove (12-6) struck out five over three innings, yielding one run and three hits.

Sophomore Charlee King (New Castle, DE) had two hits for GBC.  Freshman Natalie Mickles (Dingmans Ferry, PA) gave up 11 runs – eight earned – and 11 hits over four innings.

Goldey-Beacom in game two cut into a 3-0 deficit as Schoff's grounder was misplayed, allowing freshman Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, PA) to score for a two-run contest.

But the Chargers plated five runs in the fourth inning, keyed by Haukap's three-run homer, for an 8-1 game.  Truppi had an RBI single later in the frame and Anne Shiebler added a run-scoring single.

Dominican ended things in the bottom of the fifth when Schwed blasted a solo homer, ending a day in which she went 7-for-8 in the doubleheader and 4-for-4 in game two.

Jenna Maska (13-5) allowed just an unearned run and four hits over five innings for the Chargers (27-17, 19-5 CACC).  Truppi ended 3-for-3.

Freshman Kylie Doyle (Tower City, PA) surrendered nine runs – seven earned – and 13 hits over 4 2/3 innings for the Lightning (5-28-1, 3-23).

Goldey-Beacom ends the season Sunday with a doubleheader at Mercy, starting at 1:00 pm in Dobbs Ferry, NY.
