Softball Splits Doubleheader with U. of the Sciences



Goldey-Beacom ended its home schedule by splitting a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader with U. of the Sciences, taking the first game 5-2 before suffering a 7-0 loss at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.
 
Goldey-Beacom in game one got two runs in the bottom of the first when sophomore Charlee King (New Castle, DE) tripled down the right-field line.  The lead doubled to 4-0 in the second when both sophomore Ryann Farley (Barnegat, NJ) and freshman Natalie Mickles (Dingmans Ferry, PA) scored on an error.
 
USciences got one back in the top of the fourth on Jenna Hohenberger's RBI single to right, but GBC restored the four-run margin in the bottom of the frame on a sacrifice fly from freshman Kylie Doyle (Tower City, PA).
 
Mickles (2-15) gave up two runs – one earned – and five hits over seven innings with sophomore Paulynn Mao (Anaheim, CA) getting two hits.
 
Taylor Lichtenhahn (0-3) was charged with five runs – three earned – five hits and seven walks over four innings with two strikeouts for USciences.
 
The Devils in game two scored five times in the third inning.  Lindsay Regan had an RBI single and later stole home, Barbie Barron contributed a run-scoring single and Brittany Granahan lined a double that plated two runs when she was caught in a rundown.
 
Kyla Colburn (2-5) tossed a five-hit shutout, striking out two with just one walk for the Devils (9-27, 7-17 CACC).  Evangelina Olivera had three hits with Granahan, Devon DeBellis and Emily Harris adding two apiece.
 
Doyle (1-9) allowed five runs and six hits over 2 1/3 innings for the Lightning (5-26-1, 3-21).  Farley and King each had two hits in the contest.
 
Goldey-Beacom closes its CACC schedule Saturday at Dominican (NY) with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm in Orangeburg, NY.
