Goldey-Beacom played tough against 21st-ranked Caldwell, but dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheaders by scores of 6-0 and 3-1 at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

The Cougars in game one took a 1-0 lead when Kortney Craker singled up the middle to score Kristen Knorr.  The margin ballooned to 3-0 in the third when Alyssa Calderon blasted a double to right-center field.

Caldwell, which is first in the NCAA East Region Rankings, made it 5-0 in the fifth on RBI singles from Calderon and Marisa Monasseri.  It capped the scoring in the sixth when Knorr lifted a sacrifice fly to left field.

Sydney Ponto (10-4) pitched solidly in the circle for the Cougars, striking out seven and yielding just two hits over seven innings.  Calderon had two hits.

Freshman Natalie Mickles (Dingmans Ferry, PA) yielding six runs and 10 hits over seven innings for the Lightning.

Game two saw GBC freshman pitcher Kylie Doyle (Tower City, PA) once again showed a great deal of hope for the future, forcing Caldwell to leave the bases loaded in the second and third innings as well as strand 10 in the contest.

The Cougars (24-11-1, 17-2 CACC) again scored in the first inning, this time getting two runs on RBI singles from Craker and Monasseri.

The Lightning (4-25-1, 2-20) got one back in the third when a throwing error allowed Doyle to cross home for a 2-1 margin.  But the Cougars got an insurance marker in the seventh when Katelyn Biasi dribbled an RBI single up the middle.

Doyle did all she could, but surrendered three runs – one earned – and eight hits over seven innings with four strikeouts.

Sarah Almasy (3-2) struck out six over seven innings for Caldwell, allowing just an unearned run and three hits.  Knorr and Amy Hickman had two hits apiece.

GBC during the contests held its first Block Party to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the official charity of the CACC.  A great time was had by all with activities such as Corn Hole, Kan Jam and Throw a Pie with an appearance by Mister Softee.

Goldey-Beacom plays its home finale Friday against U. of the Sciences, beginning at 2:00 pm.
