Softball Drops Two to Post



Goldey-Beacom battled against Post in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action, but fell by scores of 12-0 and 4-0 at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.
 
Post in the third inning of game one scored four runs to open a 5-0 lead.  Jessica Grzywna had the only RBI in the frame on a two-run double to right-center field.
 
The Eagles then settled matters in the fifth with five runs to win via the run rule.  Natalie Lennox had an RBI groundout, Kayla Kressley crossed home on an error, Korie McDonald had an RBI single, Emily Schaffer scored on the same play thanks to an error and Marissa Cammarano added a run-scoring single.
 
Kaitlin Derby (7-4) fired a two-hit shutout, striking out eight over five innings for Post.  McDonald, Cammarano, Grzywna and Kathryn Dawson all had two hits.
 
Freshman Natalie Mickles (Tower City, PA) allowed five runs – three earned – and five hits over 2 1/3 innings for the Lightning (4-23-1, 2-18 CACC).
 
Post (21-13, 15-5) in the second game opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the fourth as Schaffer ripped an RBI triple to deep right-center field and Dawson added a run-scoring groundout.
 
Cammarano laced a two-run double down the right-field line in the sixth for the final.
 
Samantha Esque (9-3) struck out six over seven innings, also tossing a two-hit shutout for the Eagles.
 
Mickles allowed two runs and three hits over 3 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.
 
Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against Caldwell, starting at 3:00 pm.  The College at 2:00 pm will host its first Block Party to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation with plenty of activities planned that include Gatorade Pong, Kan Jam, Corn Hole and Throw a Pie.  Free food will be available, including an appearance from Mister Softee.
