Softball Drops a Pair to Georgian Court



Goldey-Beacom was dealt of a pair of losses in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play, falling 13-2 and 8-0 to Georgian Court at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.
 
The Lions in game one took control by scoring eight runs in the top of the fifth inning for a 13-2 lead and a victory via the run rule.  Bryana Smith had a two-run single to left-center field and Alyssa Paradiso lined a two-run single up the middle.
 
Stefanie Aplin collected three hits and two RBI with Paradiso, Smith and Dara Schroeder also getting two hits for Georgian Court.  Abby Merryman (7-10) struck out four over five innings, yielding two runs and six hits.
 
Freshman Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, PA) had two hits and Tower City, PA freshman Kylie Doyle (1-6) allowed five runs and seven hits over 2 1/3 innings for the Lightning.
 
Georgian Court in game two plated six runs in the top of the first inning and won in six innings.  The first seven batters in the frame all got hits and the Lions sent 12 to the plate.  Paradiso had an RBI bunt single, Kelly Hardiman rapped a run-scoring triple, Alycia Marsello contributed an RBI single and Smith got an RBI on a grounder that resulted in an error.
 
Schroeder, Paradiso, Hardiman, Stephanie Grainger and Katie Sorochka all had two hits for the Lions (12-16, 11-9 CACC).  Sorochka (5-10) struck out five over six innings, allowing just five hits and a walk for her first shutout of the season.
 
Brandle had a hit in the nightcap and is riding a team-season-best 10-game hitting streak for GBC (4-19-1, 2-14).  Junior Alivia Schoff (Colora, MD) had a hit and is on a five-game hitting streak.
 
Goldey-Beacom is back at it Friday at home against U. of the Sciences, beginning at noon.
