Asia Ellis’ Two-Run Double Lifts Softball to Split With Felician

Senior Asia Ellis (Marlton, NJ) lined a go-ahead, two-run double in the fifth inning to help Goldey-Beacom gain a 4-3 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Felician after opening with a 7-6 loss at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

Down 2-0 entering the last of the fifth inning, GBC began things when Kylie Doyle (Tower City, PA) and fellow freshman Jordan Donovan (Wilmington, DE) had infield singles.  Sophomore Amber Wroble (Mechanicsville, MD) sacrificed them up 60 feet and freshman Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, PA) lifted a sacrifice fly to score Doyle for a 2-1 game.

After freshman Ryann Farley (Barnegat, NJ) walked, Ellis cracked a drive to deep left-center field that plated Donovan and Farley for a 3-2 Lightning advantage.  Junior Alivia Schoff (Colora, MD) followed with a RBI single to left for a 4-2 contest.

The Golden Falcons made things interesting in the seventh.  With two out and none on, Taylor Parker walked and Mercedes Montanez reached on an error to extend the game.  Jackie Duenas singled to score Parker and the runners moved to second and third following another error.  But freshman reliever Natalie Mickles (Dingmans Ferry, PA) settled down to get Aimee Lopez on a lineout to center for the final.

Anaheim, CA sophomore Paulynn Mao (1-1) got her first collegiate victory, firing two scoreless relief innings.  Mickles earned her first career save, pitching two innings with one strikeout.

Chelsea DeGuzman (0-4) allowed four runs and six hits over six innings for Felician with Lopez and Duenas getting two hits apiece.

GBC in game one grabbed a 4-2 lead in the second, keyed by Brandle's two-run triple.  Felician put up a four spot of its own in the fourth, aided by Parker's two-run triple, to take a 6-4 lead.

The Lightning (4-17-1, 2-12 CACC) tied things in the fourth, 6-6, on an RBI double from Brandle and a run-scoring single from sophomore Charlee King (New Castle, DE).

But the Golden Falcons (9-14, 6-6) took the lead for good in the fifth.  With runners on second and third and one out, Natalie Quintanilla lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Duenas with Lopez thrown out at third on a great relay to end the inning.

Brandle had two hits and three RBI to run her team-season-high hitting streak to eight games.  Farley and Schoff also had two hits apiece.

Ashley Owens (6-6) permitted six runs – four earned – and 11 hits over seven innings for Felician.  Lopez, Jeannette Roldan and Ciera Clark all had two hits.

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against Georgian Court, starting at 2:30 pm.
