Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Gains Doubleheader Split With Chestnut Hill

Freshman Kylie Doyle (Tower City, PA) got the job done in game one both with her pitching and hitting, and sophomore Amber Wroble (Mechanicsville, MD) hit an inside-the-park home run in the second game as Goldey-Beacom split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader with Chestnut Hill.

Goldey-Beacom won the first game at the Jackson Complex, 2-0, before being dealt a 6-3 loss in the nightcap.

Doyle (1-4) pitched great in getting her first collegiate victory, notching a career-best seven strikeouts over seven innings and allowing just six hits with one walk.

Doyle also drove home both runs in the fourth inning.  Charlee King (New Castle, DE) walked, fellow sophomore Paulynn Mao (Anaheim, CA) singled and both moved up 60 feet on a wild pitch.  After two outs, Doyle came through with a double to left-center field for the game's only runs.

Briannen Holloway (1-5) struck out eight over six innings, but was charged with two unearned runs and four hits with two walks for the Griffins.  Courtney Dayter closed with two hits.

Mao ended the contest with two hits.

The Griffins (3-13, 1-7 CACC) in game two scored three times in the top of the first inning for a 3-0 lead.  Jenna Long lined an RBI single and Dayter crushed a two-run double to left-center field.

Chestnut Hill got two more in the third for a 5-0 margin as Jessica Pulis drew a bases-loaded walk and Nicole Carney scored on an error.  GBC got those runs back in the bottom half when Mao lined a two-run single up the middle for a 5-2 deficit.

The Griffins made it 6-2 in the fourth when Dayter drew ball four with the sacks full.  Wroble concluded the scoring in the last of the sixth as her liner to right field eluded Jaden Perrillo and went all the way to the corner.

It was Wroble's first career home run and GBC's first four-bagger at the Jackson Complex since 2012.

Dayter (1-5) gave up two unearned runs and two hits over four innings with two strikeouts before Kaitlyn Johnson tossed the final three frames for the save, yielding one run and five hits.  Long rapped three hits and Koraima Dudley had two.

Mao had two hits for her team-leading third multi-hit game this season and King also clubbed two hits.  Dingmans Ferry, PA freshman Natalie Mickles (0-6) allowed three runs and four hits over 1/3 of an inning for the Lightning (1-10-1, 1-7).

Goldey-Beacom on Thursday hits the road for the first time this season, facing Wilmington (DE) for a 2:30 pm doubleheader in Newark, DE.
