Softball Swept in Doubleheader by Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom permitted a no-hitter from Bailey Walters of Holy Family in game two of its doubleheader, falling 9-1 after being handed a 10-0 loss in the opening contest of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up at the Jackson Complex.

Walters (2-0) simply pitched great, retiring 10 straight batters after the first reached on an error.  She faced just four batters above the minimum over five innings, striking out two and yielding only an unearned run with two walks.

The Tigers gave Walters all the offense she would need with four runs in the top of the first inning.  Koreen Orozco had an RBI groundout, Kristine Casey ripped a two-run single and Walters helped her own cause with an RBI single to center field.

Holy Family got four more in the top of the fifth for a 9-1 lead to win via the run rule.  Taylor Favinger lined an RBI triple, scored on a double play, Walters laced a run-scoring double to right center and Claudia Boggi added an RBI double.

Walters went 3-for-3 and Casey ended with three RBI for the Tigers (5-1, 5-1 CACC), who had 13 hits in the contest.

Dingmans Ferry, PA freshman Natalie Mickles (0-5) permitted nine runs – eight earned – and 12 hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Holy Family in game one broke open the contest with four runs in the fifth inning for a 7-0 lead.  Jennifer Trapp had the key blow with a two-run single which preceded RBI singles from Orozco and Kelsi Bunda.

Orozco (3-0) struck out four over four innings, giving up two hits and no walks, and also batted 3-for-3.  Trapp finished 4-for-4 with three RBI as part of Holy Family's 14-hit attack.

Tower City, PA freshman Kylie Doyle (0-4) was charged with five runs – three earned – and eight hits over four innings with two strikeouts.  Sophomore Paulynn Mao (Anaheim, CA) rapped two hits for the Lightning (0-9-1, 0-6).

Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday is home again to battle Chestnut Hill, starting at 2:30 pm.
