Softball Gains a Tie in the Nightcap after Dropping the First to Mansfield

Goldey-Beacom and Mansfield played to a 3-3 tie in the nightcap of a five-inning game called due to darkness after the home team was dealt an 8-2 loss at the Jackson Complex.

Mansfield in game two scored three times in the top of the first inning as Amanda Goodwin lined an RBI double, scored on Megan Miller's infield single and Kayla Hahn added a run-scoring single.

GBC got two runs back in the bottom half.  Freshman Courtney Allin (Bear, DE) ripped a run-scoring single through the left side and junior Alivia Schoff (Colora, MD) added her own RBI single in the same spot.

The Lightning squared the contest in the fourth inning when freshman Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, PA) continued a familiar theme with an RBI single through the left side, scoring freshman pinch-runner Jordan Donovan (Wilmington, DE).

Kylie Doyle (Tower City, PA) tossed five innings for the Lightning (0-7-1), yielding three runs – two earned – and seven hits.  Brandle ended with two hits as Goldey-Beacom played the first tie game in team history.

Chelsey Heatley permitted three runs – one earned – and seven hits over five innings for the Mounties (5-5-1).  Courtney Bauder amassed two hits.

GBC in game one took a 1-0 lead in the first when Brandle scored as Schoff grounded into a double play.  Mansfield got the run back in the third on Goodwin's RBI single up the middle.

The Mounties then took the lead for good in the fourth as a fielding error allowed Kaitlyn Hewitt to cross home.  The margin grew to 4-1 in the fifth when a throwing error permitted Courtney Bauder and Laura Lawson to score.

Mansfield gained control in the sixth with two more runs for a 6-1 cushion as Hannah Secord rapped an RBI double to left-center field and later scored on a throwing error.

Dingmans Ferry, PA freshman Natalie Mickles (0-4) allowed six runs – two earned – and eight hits over 5 1/3 innings for the Lightning.  Brandle also finished game one with two hits.

Ashley Inman (4-2) pitched solidly for the Mounties, yielding two runs – one earned – and five hits over seven innings.
