Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Dealt Two Losses by Philadelphia U.

Goldey-Beacom took to the field for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader vs. Philadelphia University and was dealt a pair of losses, 8-0 and 1-6, at the Jackson Complex.

Freshman Kylie Doyle (Tower City, PA) continues to be one of the shining and promising stars for the Lightning.  She has showed a great deal of potential and today yielded just one earned run, allowing eight overall with 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings.

Even though Doyle has been breached for 21 runs in the young season, only four of them are earned over 21 2/3 innings.

The Rams broke through in the fourth inning of game one with three runs.  Mariah Hans ripped an RBI double, Kasia Smith had a run-scoring groundout and Gianna Bliss crossed home on a wild pitch.

Philadelphia U. then got five runs in the sixth to win via the run rule as consecutive singles from Emma Haley, Stephanie Martin and Hans ended the contest.

Samantha Abromavage (2-1) pitched great for the Rams, allowing just four hits over six innings with three strikeouts and also rapped two hits.  Martin had three hits with Haley and Hans also getting two apiece.

Sophomore Charlee King (New Castle, DE) clubbed two hits for the Lightning.

Philadelphia U. (5-7, 2-0 CACC) in game two sent 10 to plate in the second inning, exploding for five runs.  Martin had the key blow with a two-run single to left that was followed by RBI singles from Hans and Gianna Bliss.

Nicole Troisi (2-2) was not going to be beat on this day, allowing just one baserunner through the first five innings.  She struck out seven over 6 1/3 frames, permitting one run and two hits with just one walk.

Martin, Hans and Renee Kakareka all had two hits for the Rams.  Martin ended the doubleheader 5-for-8 with three RBI.

King had an RBI single and Dingmans Ferry, PA freshman Natalie Mickles (0-3) was charged with five runs and seven hits over two innings for GBC (0-6, 0-4).

Goldey-Beacom returns to the field Wednesday for a home doubleheader against Mansfield at 2:00 pm.
