Softball Loses a Pair to Bloomfield

Goldey-Beacom opened Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a pair of losses, 4-3 in 10 innings and 5-3 in regulation, to Bloomfield at the Jackson Athletic Complex.

Kristen Wilson (6-1) was the story in game one for the Bears, striking out 17 over 10 innings and giving up just three runs – one earned – and six hits with two walks.

Bloomfield in the ninth inning of game one took a 2-1 lead when Melissa Yepez singled to plate Janese Timmons.  GBC responded in the bottom of the frame when freshman Courtney Allin (Bear, DE) singled down the right-field line with two outs.

The Bears got two runs in the top of the 10th.  Timmons recorded a fielder's choice that scored Bayley Legaretta and then crossed home on Yepez' single up the middle.

The Lightning got one back in the bottom of the frame as Paulynn Mao (Anaheim, CA) lifted a sacrifice fly that scored fellow sophomore Ryann Farley (Barnegat, NJ).

Tower City, PA Kylie Doyle (0-2) again pitched great for GBC, but got the loss after yielding four runs – two earned – and 10 hits over 10 innings.  Mao ended with two RBI.

Bloomfield in game two plated four runs in the top of the seventh for a 5-0 lead, thanks in large part to Wilson rapping a three-run double to right-center field that just missed being a grand slam.  Greta Coleman ended the scoring in the inning with an RBI single.

Goldey-Beacom hung around, getting an RBI single from Allin, a bases-loaded walk from sophomore Charlee King (New Castle, DE) and a run-scoring fielder's choice from freshman Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, PA) for a 5-3 contest.  Wilson was called into relief duty after King's walk and ended it by getting freshman Lauren Conway (Hammonton, NJ) to strike out.

Stephanie Miller (4-3) struck out six over 6 1/3 innings, permitting three runs – one earned – and six hits.  Wilson, who had three hits in the contest, struck out two to end the doubleheader with 19 strikeouts and posted her third save.

Dingmans Ferry, PA freshman Natalie Mickles (0-2) allowed five runs – one earned – and 11 hits over seven innings with senior Asia Ellis (Marlton, NJ) amassing two hits.

Goldey-Beacom's doubleheader with Post, originally scheduled for Saturday, now will be played Sunday at 1:00 pm in Wilmington, DE.
